Down 11% year-on-year at 138,501 registrations, the Italian market has its slowest month of July since 1983… The 2011 total reaches 1,156,796 units, down 13%. The Fiat Punto leads the way for the 9th time in the last 12 months with 10,199 sales and 7.4%, while the Fiat Panda slows down to 5.4% in anticipation of the new generation’s launch later in the year.

The Fiat 500 rounds out the podium for the 5th month in 2011 at 5,618 units and 4.1%. It is followed by the recently relaunched Lancia Ypsilon, up to #4 for the first time since June 2007 with 5,436 sales and 3.9%, the second best-ever market share the nameplate has reached in Italy behind the 4.5% it clocked up in January 2004…A very promising start for the posh little Italian.

Dacia Duster

The Dacia Duster shines this month and breaks into the Top 10 for the very first time in Italy at #10 with 2,438 sales and 1.8%. The Duster now has managed to rank at least once within the monthly Top 10 of three major European countries: France, Spain and now Italy. Tremendous success for the French-Romanian SUV.

Fiat Freemont

Other great performers this month include the Fiat Freemont, a rebadged Dodge Journey, up no less than 45 spots to #19 with close to 2,000 sales and 1.4% share and the Hyundai ix20 up 18 spots to #25 at 1,348 units and 1%.
