Europe July 2011: Ford Focus up to #4

The European new car market slowed down its fall in July at -1% with 1,051,332 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 8,385,517 units, down -1.7%. Possibly helped by the arrival in concession of the Cabriolet version, the VW Golf improves its market share vs. June to 3.6% thanks to 37,847 sales, up 3% year-on-year. It still leads the 2011 year-to-date ranking by a large margin at 292,241 units, down 6%.
The VW Polo rebounds back from its weak 4th place last month to #2 in July with 30,144 sales and 2.9% share, now threatening the Ford Fiesta for the 2nd spot in 2011 at 219,118 units vs. 220,555 for the Fiesta… The new generation Ford Focus, in spite of lowering its market share to 2.2%, gains one spot on June to land 4th with 23,089 sales, the nameplate’s highest position since September 2009.
