South Africa May 2011: Toyota Hilux & VW Polo Vivo fight it out
The South African car market is up 6% this month at 41,555 registrations, bringing the year-to-date figure to 227,806, up 16%. Compared to April, the podium is unchanged: the Toyota Hilux is still ahead with 2,558 sales (6.2%) however it only sells…11 units more than the #2, the VW Polo Vivo at 2,547 units and 6.1%. The VW Polo rounds up the podium at a solid 4.7% share.
Two models excel in the Top 10 this month: the Ford Figo jumps up 7 spots to reach a shiny 5th place with 1,128 sales and 2.7%, and the Nissan NP200 (aka Dacia Logan Pick-up) lands in 6th place, its best-ever ranking in South Africa, with 1,036 sales and 2.5%.
Other great performers this month are the Toyota Aygo up 8 spots to #25 for its second month of sales, the Land Rover Discovery at #31 with 266 sales and 0.6% and the BMW X3 up 26 spots to #32 with 255 units.
