Russia May 2011: Lada Priora leads, Hyundai Solaris up again
Russian car dealerships continue to be much busier than last year, with May sales up a whopping 48% at 235,170 units and the year-to-date figure up 60% at 989,013 registrations. For the first time since December 2010, the Lada Priora is the best-selling car in Russia with 13,029 sales and 5.5% share, it is however still #3 year-to-date at 54,594 units and also 5.5%.
Only 109 units below is the Lada Kalina, continuing on its excellent start of the year at 12,920 sales this month and 59,249 units or 6% year-to-date, up 96% and new leader overall. The Lada 2104-7 ranks 3rd with 11,110 sales (4.7%) and drops one spot to #2 year-to-date at 58,362 sales and 5.9%, up 69%. The Lada Samara is stable in 4th place 10,287 sales and 4.4% this month.
The Hyundai Solaris impresses again, up to 10,054 sales and 4.3%, really threatening the Samara for the 4th position. This is the highest monthly volume achieved by a foreign model in Russia since 2007 and possibly ever. It could also be the first time a foreign model sells more than 10,000 units in a single month – the Ford Focus may have achieved that in 2007 but i don’t have detailed data so please get in touch if you do.
