Europe May 2011: VW Golf strong, Fiat Punto back in Top 10
The European car market is looking brighter, up 7% year-on-year in May at 1,230,453 units. This brings the year-to-date total to 6,038,928, now only down 0.3%. 7 of the Top 10 best-selling models register year-on-year increases, compared to only 2 last month.
The VW Golf stays very strong at 3.7% share and 45,843 sales, up 9%. The Ford Fiesta is up to #2 for the 2nd time this year at 32,722 units (+3%) and consolidates its 2nd place year-to-date, albeit with sales down 21%. The VW Polo, Opel Corsa and Astra all post solid months too.
At #6, the Ford Focus is up 3 spots on April at 25,960 units (+19%), the VW Passat is down to #8 but still robust at +49% year-on-year and the Fiat Punto is back in the Top 10 for the first time since February with 20,577 sales.
