Turkey 2002: Fiat and Ford topple Renault, Transit #1

The Ford Transit is the best-selling vehicle in Turkey in 2002.

The Turkish new light vehicle market remains in purgatory in 2002, down a further -13.9% to 158,388 units. Big event atop the brands charts: the leadership changes hand as Fiat (-15.4%) snaps the pole position off Renault (-46.6%) which drops to #3 just as Ford (+0.2%) also gains one spot to #2. Peugeot (+23%) is up two ranks to #4, distancing Opel (-8.2%), VW (-15.5%) and Hyundai (-3.5%). Toyota (+142%) goes completely against the grain and advances to 8th place overall at 4.7% share vs. 1.7% last year. BMW (+94.7%), Mercedes (+88.6%) and Citroen (+62.8%) also shine below.

Over in the models charts, the locally produced Ford Transit (-2.6%) reclaims the lead for the first time since 1999, ahead of the Fiat Doblo (+14.7%) also made in Turkey. The Renault Clio (-4.6%) advances two spots on last year to #3 and #1 passenger car. The Toyota Corolla (+231.9%) shoots up 22 ranks to #4 followed by the Peugeot Partner (+18.9%) and Opel Astra (-11.3%). Leader in 2001, the Renault Megane (-62.2%) is down to #7 with the Ford Focus (-29.7%), Renault Kangoo (-44.2%) and Hyundai H100 (+67.7%) in tow.
