Spain 1999: Citroen Xsara takes the lead in 2nd straight record volume
Another outstanding year for new car registrations in Spain, up a splendid 18.8% to a 2nd straight all-time record volume at 1.385.791 units. Renault (+23.1%) manages to outpace the market to consolidate its brands domination at 14.2% share vs. 11.7% for Seat (+13.6%) and 11.2% for Citroen (+15.8%). Opel (+25.1%) and Peugeot (+25.4%) round up the Top 5, knocking Ford (+9.5%) down to #6. Volkswagen (+31.2%) posts the largest gain in the Top 10. In the LCV brands ranking, Citroen (+8%) is now under pressure for Renault (+29.2%).
The Citroen Xsara (+32%) takes the lead of the Spanish models ranking at 6.1% share, ending 3 consecutive years of reign by the Seat Ibiza (+5.1%) while the Renault Megane (+6.9%) is also down one spot to #3. The Opel Astra (+74.3%), Renault Clio (+56%), Peugeot 206 (+450.8%) and Ford focus (+1130.1%) follow, all posting spectacular gains, the latter two as their first full year of sales in the country. The Renault Kangoo (+17.8%) easily takes the lead of the LCV models charts, toppling the Citroen Berlingo (+0.9%) while the Citroen C15 (+23.9%) is back on the podium.
