Saudi Arabia 1995: Market down -36.8%, Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai resist

The Chevrolet Caprice ranks #5 in Saudi Arabia in 1995.

Only 65,109 new light vehicles hit Saudi roads in 1995, a devastating -36.8% year-on-year collapse. Toyota (-38.6%) loses one percentage point of share to 33.9% while Nissan (-32.5%) is up to 13.1%. Chevrolet (-2.2%) resists best in the Top 15 and climbs two spots on last year to #3 and 7.3% share vs. 4.7% in 1994. GMC (-48.3%) is in total freefall to #4 while Hyundai (-10.2%) is up one rank on 1994 to #5, the Korean brand’s first incursion in the annual Saudi Top 5. Ford (-6.5%) and Honda (-11.7%) also contain their fall but Mitsubishi (-79.4%) implodes from #4 to #10.

The Toyota Cressida (-43.7%) is the #1 vehicle in the country for the 4th year running at 9.3% share, ahead of the Toyota Hilux (-46.4%) up one spot on 1994 to #2. In fact the entire Top 5 is up one rank on last year, all taking advantage of the fall of the GMC Suburban (-60.7%) from #2 to #6. The Chevrolet Caprice (-25.5%) fares best followed by the Toyota Land Cruiser 100 (-34.6%) and Nissan Datsun (-38.8%). The Ford Crown Victoria (+39.3%) soars 6 spots to #7 while the Toyota Tercel (-9.8%) breaks into the Top 10 for the first time at #10.
