Saudi Arabia 1991: Toyota Hilux takes charge, GMC #3 brand
The GMC Suburban lands directly at #6 in 1991.
The Saudi new light vehicle market shoots up 21.6% year-on-year in 1991 to 176,177 units. Toyota (+9.3%) remains by far the most successful carmaker in the country but sees its share thaw from 44.9% last year to 40.4%. Nissan (+7.1%) also falls from 21.1% to 18.6%. GMC (+5865.6) storms no less than 26 spots on 1990 to land at an outstanding third position. Chevrolet (+13.6%) stays at #4 while Mitsubishi (+1.2%) drops two spots to #5. The rest of the Top 10 all beat the market, with Mazda (+185.8%), Ford (+76.8%), Mercury (+76.2%) and Suzuki (+55.9%) the most dynamic.
Over in the models charts, the Toyota Hilux (+38.1%) takes charge with 13.8% share, toppling the Toyota Cressida (+2.5%). The Nissan Datsun (-6.3%) and Toyota Land Cruiser 100 (-11.2%) disappoint while the Chevrolet Caprice (+13%) overtakes the Toyota Corolla (-7.7%) to #5. The GMC Suburban, new for the year, lands directly at #7.
