USA 1987: Ford places F-Series, Escort and Taurus in Top 4

1987 is an excellent year for Ford. The American manufacturer places the F-Series in pole position once again thanks to sales up 1% to 550,125 units, the Escort in 2nd place and #1 Passenger Car at 392,360 sales (-2%) and the Taurus up 7 spots and 35% on 1986 to #4 with 354,971 units. Reversely, there is now only one Chevrolet inside the US Top 5 vs. 3 in 1986: the C/K pickup down 7% to 375,867 sales and remaining in third position. The Chevrolet Cavalier (-14%) and Celebrity (-25%) are out.

They are replaced by the Honda Accord in the Top 5: up two spots and 3% on 1986 to #5 with 334,876 units. The Japanese manufacturer makes history this year by placing a ‘foreign’ model inside the US Top 5 for the first time, although a majority of Accords are produced locally these days. Another big milestone passed this year is Hyundai placing its Excel in the Top 10: up a spectacular 56% and 15 ranks to #9 and 263,610 sales for only its 2nd year in market… Further down, notice the Nissan Sentra up 4 spots to #12, the Chevrolet Corsica/Beretta landing at #15 for its first full year of sales in the US and the Toyota Camry up 14 to #17.
