Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can share with you today the Top 10 best-selling nameplates of each UK nation in October. As a reminder, this data is already included in the UK October update, this is a zoom-in by nation. England (+1%) and Scotland (+7%) keep the overall UK market afloat whereas Northern Ireland (-2%) and Wales (-7%) struggle. Year-to-date, England continues to be the sole reason the UK market is still evolving at record pace this year with deliveries up 3% to 1.998.489 or 85.7% of the overall market. Northern Ireland is up 0.3% to 52.145, Scotland down 0.4% to 192.910 and Wales down 0.8% to 80.933.

The Ford Fiesta only manages two wins this month, in England with 4.4% share and Wales with 6.7%, with the VW Golf taking the lead in Northern Ireland with 3.6% and the Vauxhall Corsa dominates Scotland at 5.3%. The podiums vary wildly depending on the nation: in Wales it’s 100% a Ford affair with the Focus at #2 and Kuga at #3, in England the Nissan Qashqai outpaces the Vauxhall Astra for #2, in Northern Ireland the Kia Sportage shoots up to #3 and in Scotland the Dacia Sandero surges to #2. Other great performers include the Nissan Juke up to #7 in England, the Renault Kadjar up to #7 in Northern Ireland, the Fiat 500X up to #8 in Scotland and the Vauxhall Mokka X snapping its very first Top 10 ranking, also in Scotland.

Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can share with you the Top 10 best-selling nameplates of each UK nation in September. As a reminder, this data is already included in the UK September update, this is a zoom-in by nation. As it has been now become routine, England is once again the only “island” of growth in the UK in September with deliveries up 1.9% to 401.476 just as Wales drops 0.1% to 17.439, Scotland skids down 0.2% to 43.448 and Northern Ireland loses 1% to 6.657. Year-to-date, England is up 3% to 1.842.937 or 85.9% of the overall UK market, Scotland is down 1% to 178.479 (8.3% share), Wales is down 0.3% to 74.922 (3.5% share) and Northern Ireland up 0.5% to 48.548 (2.3% share).

Seat Ibiza UK September 2016The Seat Ibiza ranks #4 in Northern Ireland

The Ford Fiesta is #1 in all nations bar Scotland where the Vauxhall Corsa tops the charts, while the #2 spots changes hands with each nation: Corsa in England, Renault Clio in Scotland, Ford Focus in Wales and VW Golf in Northern Ireland. The Renault Group shines, also placing the Sandero at #5 in Wales and the Captur at #5 in Scotland. The Seat Ibiza shoots up to #4 in Northern Ireland while the Ford Kuga is #4 in Wales and #5 in Northern Ireland. Traditionally almost identical to the overall UK ranking given its weight in the market, in September the English models ranking shows a few “anomalies”: the Nissan Qashqai clearly outperforms, overtaking the VW Golf and Ford Focus to rank #3 overall, the Audi A3 nudges up to #7 and the Mercedes C-Class to #9. Notice the Mercedes A-Class holding onto its YTD Top 10 spot for dear life at 29.968 sales.

Thanks to our partnership with SMMT we can share with you the Top 10 best-selling nameplates of each UK nation in August. As a reminder, this data is already included in the UK August update, this is a zoom-in by nation. As it has been the case for the most part of the year, England (+4.5%) lifts the entire UK market up: as fleet sales fare particularly well in August (+8%), England is advantaged as this is where most UK fleet sales are registered. Northern Ireland (+2.5%) also posts a positive score but Scotland and Wales both drop 3% compared to August 2015. Year-to-date, England is up 3.5% to 1.441.461 or 86% of the overall UK market, Scotland is down 1% to 135.031 (8% share), Wales is down 0.3% to 57.483 (3.4% share) and Northern Ireland up 0.8% to 41.891 (2.5% share).

Fiat 500X UK August 2016. Picture courtesy dailyrecord.co.ukThe Fiat 500X posts a 2nd consecutive month inside the Scottish Top 10.

As it was the case in July, the Ford Fiesta leads each nation bar Northern Ireland where the VW Golf snaps the top spot. The Ford Focus owes its overall 2nd place in the UK solely to England where it ranks #2 also, whereas it is knocked down outside of the podium in each other nation. The Vauxhall Mokka is inside every nation’s Top 10: #3 in Wales, #4 in Scotland and #7 both in England and Northern Ireland. The Ford Kuga posts a splendid 2nd place in Wales and also ranks #6 in both Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Ford Ecosport UK August 2016. Picture courtesy autocar.co.ukThe Ford Ecosport ranks 9th in Wales in August.

In Northern Ireland, notice the Renault Captur at #2, the Hyundai Tucson at #4 and the Renault Clio at #5. In Wales the Ford C-Max ranks 5th while the Dacia Sandero is 8th and the Ford Ecosport is 9th. In Scotland the Fiat 500X signs its 2nd month in a row – and ever – inside the Top 10 at #9 while the Kia Picanto appears at #10, the nameplate’s first time among the nation’s ten best-sellers since BSCB started following UK nations monthly 4 years ago. Finally, let’s single out the Mercedes C-Class up to #8 year-to-date in England and the Mercedes A-Class remaining inside the English Top 10.

Thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers in July for each UK nation. Keep in mind this data will be included in the UK July monthly update coming shortly, this is a zoom-in by nation. Once again, only England (+1%) is in positive territory this month. with Wales (-5%), Northern Ireland (-8%) and Scotland (-8%) experiencing significant dips. This means that both Scotland (-1%) and Wales (-0.2%) are now in negative year-to-date whereas England (+3%) and Northern Ireland (+0.6%) gain volume. The Ford Fiesta misses out on a fourth consecutive month of monopolistic domination due to the VW Golf taking the lead in Northern Ireland. The Vauxhall Corsa is #2 in England and Scotland while the Nissan Qashqai holds this ranking in Northern Ireland and the Ford Kuga in Wales. Other strong performers include the Hyundai Tucson #3 in Northern Ireland, the Vauxhall Mokka #3 both in Scotland and Wales, the Dacia Sandero #4 in Wales and the Fiat 500X snapping its very first UK nation Top 10 ranking at #9 in Scotland.

Thanks to SMMT we now have access to the Top 10 best-sellers in June for each UK nation. Keep in mind this data is already included in the UK June monthly update, this is a zoom-in by nation. Only England (+0.1%) is in positive territory this month: Northern Ireland (-2%), Wales (-6%) and, worst of all Scotland (-7%) all register clear drops. Year-to-date though and half-way through 2016, all nations gain ground vs. the same period in 2015 bar Scotland pulled into negative (-0.3%) by the weak June score. England (+4%) is the most dynamic. For the third month in a row, the Ford Fiesta manages to top the sales charts of every single nation, distancing the Vauxhall Corsa in England and Scotland  the Hyundai Tucson in Northern Ireland and the Ford Kuga in Wales.

Ford Kuga Wales June 2016The Ford Kuga ranks 2nd in Wales and 3rd in Northern Ireland.

The Mini celebrates its 5th place overall in the UK with a presence in the Top 10 of every nation in June: it ranks 5th in England, 8th in Northern Ireland, 6th in Scotland and 7th in Wales whereas it only ranks in the English Top 10 year-to-date. The VW Golf takes the lead of its segment in England, overtaking the Ford Focus when comparing to the overall UK ranking, while the Mercedes A-Class remains in the English Top 10 vs. #12 in the UK. The Northern Irish ranking is invaded with SUVs: below the Tucson we find the Ford Kuga at #3, the Nissan Qashqai at #6, Renault Kadjar at #7 (and #10 YTD) and Kia Sportage at #9. Scottish buyers still have a weakness for Renault, placing the Clio at #5 in June and the Captur at #10 YTD.

England (+3%) and Scotland (+2%) are in line with the overall UK market (+2.6%) whereas Wales is up just 0.7% and Northern Ireland recedes 1%. Year-to-date, all nations gain ground vs. the same period in 2015 with England the most dynamic at +4.6% to 996.268 units, Northern Ireland up 2.5% to 28.031, Wales up 1.8% to 41.103 and Scotland up 1.2% to 96.043.

Ford Kuga UK May 2016. Picture courtesy honestjohn.co.ukThe Ford Kuga is up to #2 overall in Wales.

For the second consecutive month, the Ford Fiesta manages to top the sales charts of every single nation, distancing the VW Golf in England, the Vauxhall Corsa in Northern Ireland and Scotland and an impressive Ford Kuga in Wales. The Hyundai Tucson remains extremely strong at #3 in Northern Ireland where the Kia Sportage is #8 and the Renault Kadjar #10 year-to-date. The Dacia Sandero brilliantly makes the Top 10 of each UK nation bar England: it ranks #8 in Scotland and #9 in Northern Ireland as well as Wales. Other great performers include the Mercedes C-Class up to #6 in England and the Vauxhall Mokka at #4 in Wales and #6 in Scotland and the Renault Captur and Clio both making it into the Scottish Top 10.

UK nations April 2016: Fiesta #1 everywhere, Hyundai Tucson shines

Ford Fiesta UK April 2016The Ford Fiesta is the best-seller in every UK nation in April.

* See the Top 10 best-selling models in each UK nation by clicking on the title *

Thanks to SMMT we can share with you the Top 10 best-sellers in April for each UK nation. Keep in mind this data is already included in the UK monthly updates, this is a zoom in by nation. England (+3%) and Northern Ireland (+5%) outpace the overall UK market (+2%) whereas Wales (-3%) and Scotland (-5%) actually lose ground. Year-to-date however, all four nations are improving vs. 2015 with England up 5%, Northern Ireland up 3%, Wales up 2% and Scotland up 1%. This month the Ford Fiesta manages to top the sales charts of every single nation including Scotland where it normally lags behind the Vauxhall Corsa, uncharacteristically dropping out of the April Top 10 there.

Hyundai Tucson Northern Ireland April 2016The Hyundai Tucson is #2 in Northern Ireland so far in 2016.

The English market, accounting for 86.3% of overall UK sales, is traditionally almost identical to UK charts. There are some changes this month though: the Vauxhall Corsa ranks at a higher #5, the Nissan Juke replaces the Kia Sportage inside the Top 10 and the Mercedes A-Class manages to stay within the YTD Top 10 at #10, making it a historical two Mercedes in the Top 10 along with the C-Class at #9. The Hyundai Tucson hits an outstanding 2nd place in Northern Ireland (also its ranking YTD), the Seat Ibiza (#5) and Kia Sportage (#8) also reaching their best ranking there. Scotland sees the Vauxhall Astra hit #3 and the Fiat 500 #5 while Wales has the Dacia Sandero at #4, the Ford Kuga at #5 and the Vauxhall Mokka at #6. Heroes of the past months, the Renault Kadjar holds onto the #9 YTD spot in Northern Ireland, the Vauxhall Viva holds the same spot in Scotland where the Renault Clio replaces the Captur inside the YTD Top 10.

UK nations March 2016: Kia Sportage scores one podium, Kadjar strong

Kia Sportage UK March 2016The Kia Sportage is #3 in Northern Ireland.

After the overall UK Top 10 and thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation for March. England (+6%) drives the overall UK market as usual, representing 85.8% of total UK sales this month. Northern Ireland (+5%) evolves like the market but Wales and Scotland (both at +3%) lag behind. March being one of the two much larger license plate change months, the models rankings return to an order close to their traditional annual shape, but there are still some surprises, notably in Northern Ireland, less affected by the license plate change. As it has done so for almost a decade annually, the Ford Fiesta is #1 in all UK nations bar one: Scotland, traditionally Vauxhall Corsa territory. The Vauxhall Astra shines in Northern Ireland (#2) and Scotland (#3) while the Ford Focus only manages two podium rankings: in England and Wales.

Renault Kadjar UK March 2016The Renault Kadjar remains inside the Northern Irish Top 10 in March.

In England, the Top 8 is identical to the UK ranking, with the Audi A3 (#9) and Fiat 500 (#10) exchanging ranks, but the most interesting difference is the Mercedes A-Class holding onto its Top 10 year-to-date ranking (#9) whereas it is outside the 10 favourites in the UK overall. Northern Ireland sees the Kia Sportage leaps three spots on February to an outstanding third position (it ranks #10 in Wales) while the Seat Ibiza jumps to #4, the Hyundai Tucson is down five spots to a still solid #6 and the Renault Kadjar lodges a 2nd consecutive Top 10 month at #9. The Renault Clio (#6), Captur (#7) and Vauxhall Viva (#10) all shine in Scotland. Great performers in Wales include the Vauxhall Mokka at #4 (its only Top 10 ranking this month), the Ford Kuga at #5 and Toyota Yaris at #7.

After the overall UK Top 10 and thanks to SMMT we can now share with you the Top 10 best-sellers for each UK nation for February. Once again England (+9%) drives the overall UK market and represents 84.2% of total UK sales this month. Wales (+9%) follows suit but Northern Ireland (+6%) and Scotland (+1%) display weaker gains. All nations are however in positive territory year-to-date with England the most dynamic at +5% followed by Wales (+3%), Scotland (+2%) and Northern Ireland (+1%). Smaller volumes mean more volatile rankings and there is indeed a lot of movement in all UK nations this month, even in England traditionally very close to the UK charts.

Hyundai Tucson Northern Ireland February 2016. Picture courtest autoexpress.co.ukThe Hyundai Tucson is the best-selling car in Northern Ireland this month.

If the Ford Fiesta is #1 in England and Wales and the Vauxhall Corsa #1 in Scotland as per their respective 2015 rankings, the Hyundai Tucson spectacularly takes control of Northern Ireland (as it has Ireland as well), also posting its first Top 10 ranking in Scotland. The Kia Sportage justifies its first ever UK Top 10 ranking (#9 overall) by ranking within each UK nation’s Top 10 simultaneously for the first time: it is #6 in Northern Ireland and Scotland, #9 in England and #10 in Wales. In England the Nissan Qashqai holds onto the record 2nd spot it held in January for the 2nd straight month.

Ford Ecosport Wales February 2016. Picture courtesy autocar.co.ukThe Ford Ecosport ranks 6th in Wales this month.

The Mercedes A-Class makes its very first appearance in the English Top 10 since BSCB started following UK nations monthly in 2013 at #8 while the BMW 1 Series ranks #10. None of these two nameplates make it to the overall UK Top 10 though. The Renault Kadjar lodges a stunning 5th place in Northern Ireland, earning it a #6 spot year-to-date just above its small counterpart the Renault Captur, ranking #9 there this month. The Fiat 500 resists in Scotland where it posts its only Top 10 ranking this month (#9), the Vauxhall Mokka ranks 3rd in Wales where the Ford Kuga is 4th and the Ford Ecosport delivers a brilliant 6th place.
