The Macedonian new car market continues to struggle: down 20% year-on-year in April to 298 registrations which brings the year-to-date total to 1,266 units, down 10% on 2012. Last month Macedonia became the first country in the world where the Skoda Rapid managed to grab the top spot, and it confirms in April but this time getting rid of the VW Golf to be alone in pole position with 25 sales and an improved 8.4% market share.

The Rapid is #3 year-to-date at 67 units and 5.3% behind the Golf at 89 sales and 7% and the Skoda Yeti at 159 and 12.6% solely thanks to deliveries to the Ministry of Interior back in January. Notice also the Ford Fiesta up 4 spot on March to #3, the Ford Focus up to #4 and now #10 year-to-date and the Chevrolet Spark (#8), Seat Leon (#9) and Toyota Auris (#10) making their appearance in the Macedonian Top 10.

In March, 308 new vehicles found a buyer in Macedonia, bringing the year-to-date total to 968 units. Surprise on top: the Skoda Rapid celebrates its first pole position anywhere in the world thanks to 24 sales and 7.8% share, equal with the VW Golf. Granted, it’s a small market, but still an interesting achievement for the Czech model. Year-to-date, the Skoda Yeti is still by far the most popular model at 159 units and 16.4% solely thanks to deliveries to the Ministry of Interior. Notice also the Renault Fluence and Mitsubishi Colt both holding well at #5 and #7 respectively, the Lada Niva up to #8 and the Citroen C-Elysee making its first appearance in the Macedonian monthly Top 10 at #10.

New car sales in Macedonia are down 8% year-on-year in February to 273 registrations, however thanks to the 150-strong order of National Police Skoda Yetis delivered in January, the market is still up 5% on 2012 year-to-date at 708 units. The VW Golf reclaims its traditional pole position this month thanks to 25 sales and an excellent 9.2% share, but the Skoda Yeti, even if down to just one unit in February, is still leader year-to-date by far with 156 sales and 22% vs. 43 and 6.1% for the Golf.

As early as for its first month in market, the Skoda Rapid brilliantly manages to climb into 2nd place at 18 units and 6.6%, a better score than at home in Czech Republic which is, granted, a much more sizeable market. The VW Passat remains #3 with 12 sales and 4.4% equal with the Skoda Octavia while the Renault Fluence (#5), Mitsubishi Colt (#7) and Fiat Linea (#9) also shine.

The Macedonian new car market starts the year in a pretty unusual way: up 13% year-on-year to 435 registrations, however this progression is only due to the delivery to the Minister of Interior of 150 Skoda Yeti. Without them, the market would be down 26% on January 2012… With the Yeti artificially at 35.6% market share (!), Skoda logically dominates the brands ranking for once with 176 sales and 40.5% ahead of Volkswagen at 14.3% and Ford at 4.8%.

This January figure should enable the Skoda Yeri to feature on the 2013 year-end podium even if it sells nothing all year… In 2nd place we find the VW Golf at 18 units and 4.1%, followed by the VW Passat at 3% and the Opel Astra at 2.3%. The Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Captiva and Skoda Octavia are equal #5 with 7 sales and 1.6% share.

The Macedonian new car market continues to crumble, down 40% year-on-year in December to 301 registrations, bringing the Full Year 2012 total to 4,816 units, the weakest annual tally in the last 10 years…  The models podium is unchanged on November, with the VW Golf in the lead at 17 sales and 5.6% share, followed by the Opel Astra at 3.7% and the Ford Fiesta at 3.3%, now equal with the Citroen C1. Opel Astra

* See the Top 10 best-selling models and brands by clicking on the title! Thanks to Rutger *

Thanks to Rutger it looks like the Republic of Macedonia will now become a monthly update on BSCB, with local car website Auto Plus now regularly publishing a Top 10 models and brands… October new car sales in the country are down 31% year-on-year to 315 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 3,497 units, down a similarly daunting 33% on 2011. Very small figures mean very volatile models ranking and the Opel Astra only needs 21 sales for a 6.7% market share to take the lead this month ahead of the Skoda Fabia at 12 and the Dacia Duster, Peugeot Bipper and VW Passat all at 11.

VW Golf

Year-to-date, the VW Golf is in the lead by far with 214 units and 6.1% share, ahead of the Opel Astra at 149 and 4.3%, the VW Polo at 124, VW Passat at 121 and Skoda Fabia at 119. The brands ranking is much more stable, with Volkswagen the runaway winner both this month and year-to-date with 13.3% and 15.7% share respectively, followed each time by Skoda (8.9% and 7.9%) and Opel (8.3% and 6.7%).

Today Macedonia becomes a little less unloved, with the first models ranking since 2007, albeit dating back to January-February 2011. The Macedonian new car market is down 23% year-on-year in January 2011 to 586 registrations, but up 16% in February to 569 units. Volkswagen monopolises the Top 2 in January with the VW Golf topping the models ranking with 38 sales and 6.5% share, ahead of the VW Polo at 34 units and 5.8% with the Dacia Sandero rounding up the podium at 27 sales and 4.6%.

Kia Venga

In February, the VW Golf is ahead again but share the pole position with the Renault Megane, both at 43 units and 7.6% share. The previous gen Opel Astra is in third position with 20 units and 3.5% equal with the Skoda Fabia. Other models staying in the Macedonian Top 10 both months are the Ford Focus (#6 then #5), Chevrolet Cruze (#8 and #6) and Ford Fiesta (#9 and #7). Other great performers include the Dacia Duster at #5 in Jan, new Opel Astra at #8 in Feb and Kia Venga at #11.
