Netherlands April 2024: Kia Niro best-seller, Volvo EX40 lands at #6

The Volvo EX40 lands directly at #6 for the month.

The Dutch new car market skids -3.8% year-on-year in April to 28,432 sales, however the year-to-date volume remains in positive at +2.1% to 130,146. HEVs hold 44.3% share thanks to 12,608 sales, while BEVs are at 32% with 9,092 units, petrol at 21% and 5,984 and diesel at 1.9% and 534.

The Top 4 carmakers defy the negative market: Kia (+16.4%) jumps three spots on last month to #1, a ranking it now also holds year-to-date. Volvo surges 145.9% to 11.6% share vs. 9% so far this year, with Toyota (+15.5%) and Hyundai (+17.3%) in tow. Volkswagen (-36.2%) endures another difficult month and is down to #6 year-to-date whereas it held the #1 spot over the Full Year 2023. Tesla (+90.6%) goes against its other European results with a splendid year-on-year uptick at #6 just as Audi (+6.9%) posts the only additional gain in the Top 10.

Over in the models lane, the Kia Niro (+162.5%) soars to first place from #6 last month. It is followed by the new Volvo EX30 up to a record #2 and the Tesla Model Y (+137.1%) also in outstanding shape. The Hyundai Kona (+209.2%) does even better and gains 11 spots on March to #4. The best performance of the month is delivered by the Volvo EX40 landing directly at #6. It replaces the XC40 Recharge. The Toyota Aygo X (+98.2%), Yaris (+31.9%) and Fiat 500 (+31%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10.
