New Caledonia (France) Full Year 2017: Duster leads, Dacia 13 units off #1

The Dacia Duster is the best-selling vehicle in New Caledonia for the 2nd straight year.

New car sales rally back up 8.1% to 8.550 units in New Caledonia, a small French overseas territory located north-east of Australia. Sales for New Caledonia are counted separate to metropolitan France and allow for the sale of Chinese brands such as Great Wall and Chery, as safety and pollution laws are less stringent here. Ford remains the most popular manufacturer despite sales down 4% to 10.6%, ending the year just 13 sales above Dacia up 5% to 10.5% share. Toyota (+20%) overtakes Peugeot (+8%) to snap the last spot on the podium while Citroen (+23%) passes Renault (+8%) to round up the Top 5. Mitsubishi (+82%), Mazda (+55%), Volkswagen (+49%), Fiat (+48%), Dodge (+31%) and Hyundai (+26%) also post spectacular gains inside the Top 20. Model-wise, the Dacia Duster is the best-seller for the 2nd year in a row but sees its market share thaw to 5.7% as sales edge up 1%. The Ford Ranger (+5%) and Toyota Hilux (+6%) make it two pickups on the podium like last year with a Top 6 unchanged on 2016 with the Ford Fiesta (-23%), Peugeot 208 (+5%) and Isuzu D-Max (+1%). The Citroen C3 shoots up 352% and 33 spots to #7 thanks to the new generation while the Hyundai Creta (+206%) ends its first full year in market at #9. The Dacia Sandero (+12%) and Nissan Navara (+17%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Finally, notice the RAM 1500 breaking into the Top 30 thanks to deliveries up 31%.
