The Argentinean new car market posts a second consecutive double-digit gain in 2017, surging 27% or nearly 200.000 units to 900.942 registrations, only the second time in history after 2013 (955.023) that the annual volume in Argentina is above 900.000 units. Brand leader again, Volkswagen advances faster than the market at +33%, resulting in a higher 16% share. Chevrolet (+23%), Renault (+16%) and Ford (+20%) trail the market slightly but hold onto their 2016 ranking. Fiat (+28%) overtakes Toyota (+20%) for 5th place, with Honda, up a stunning 80%, swapping places with Mercedes (+45%) at the tail end of the Top 10. Below, Dodge (+437%), DS (+316%), Jeep (+184%), Hyundai (+95%), Volvo (+92%), Nissan (+82%), Subaru (+69%), BMW (+65%) and Mini (+60%) all post spectacular gains. Chinese carmakers also improve vastly in 2017 in Argentina: more than doubling their sales vs. 2016 (+109%), they now account for 1% of the market. Leader Chery is up 65% to #14 overall, followed by Lifan up 355% and two spots to #21, Geely up from 3 sales in 2016 to over 500 this year at #26, JMC up 160%, Foton up from 4 units to over 100 and Dongfeng up 119%.

The models ranking is completely reshuffled compared to last year. After a freak interruption by the Toyota Hilux in 2016, the VW Gol reclaims the lead for the third time in the past four years and the 13th time overall, the first one being over 20 years ago in 1996. The Renault Sandero soars 119% and 13 spots to land at #2, followed by the Chevrolet Onix up 96% and 10 ranks to #3. The Toyota Hilux is up just 6% but down three spots to #4 above the Toyota Etios (+36%) remaining at #5. The Chevrolet Prisma (+109% and 13 ranks) and Ford Ka (+125% and 14 spots) also impress in a Top 10 rounded up by the Peugeot 208 (+38%) and VW Amarok (+23%). Other great gainers in the Top 20 include the Fiat Mobi (+419%), Chevrolet Cruze (+178%) and Fiat Toro (+236%). The Peugeot 301 (#59) is the best-selling new launch for 2017 ahead of the Fiat Argo (#67), Nissan Kicks (#68), Citroen C4 Cactus (#94) and Renault Kwid (#114).
