Vietnam September 2017: Honda CR-V up to #2

The Honda CR-V leaps up to #2 overall in Vietnam this month.

The Vietnamese new vehicle market is down a harsh 20% year-on-year in September to 21.216 registrations, pulling the year-to-date total down 7.3% to 198.253 units. Thaco-Kia remains the most popular manufacturer in the country, but just: it freefalls 42% year-on-year to 19.8% share vs. 19.4% (-20%) for Toyota which follows the market. Ford is down 14% to #3 but Honda doubles its sales year-on-year to leap up to 4th place with 9.8% share, overtaking Mazda (-50%). Hyundai (+31%), Mercedes (+29%) and Hino (+70%) impress. Model-wise, below the Toyota Vios up 3% to 7.9% share, the hero of the month is without a doubt the new gen Honda CR-V, shooting up 195% year-on-year and 11 spots on July to land at a spectacular 2nd place with 6.2% of the Vietnamese market vs. 1.7% year-to-date. The Toyota Fortuner (+4%) and Ford Ranger (+12%) and Toyota Innova (+4%) round up the Top 5 ahead of the freefalling Kia Morning (-57%), Mazda CX-5 (-26%) and Mazda3 (-50%). Notice also the Chevrolet Colorado up 359% to #12, the Ford Everest/Explorer up 1613% to #21 and the Suzuki Ciaz up to #23.
