Chile September 2017: Hyundai #1, Chinese up 77% in market up 9.5%

New light vehicle sales in Chile are up 9.5% year-on-year in September to 35.458 units, which is the largest monthly volume for any month since December 2013 (38.025). Year-to-date, Chilean sales are up 19.1% to 261.567. This month Hyundai is the best-selling carmaker in the country despite sales down 4% year-on-year to 9.8% share, getting dangerously closer (250 sales) to YTD leader Chevrolet, up 5% to #3 in September. Toyota (+7%) is up four spots to #2 overall while Suzuki is up 15% to #4. Mitsubishi, Mazda (+20% each) and Ford (+24%) post the largest gains in the Top 10, while below Citroen (+19%), Fiat (+34%), Renault (+47%), Jaguar (+82%) and Volvo (+99%) shine. Chinese carmakers once again post spectacular figures, up 77% year-on-year to 10.5% share overall vs. 10.1% (+53%) year-to-date. They are led by Chery (+60%), the Great Wall Group (+26%), JAC (-3%), Dongfeng (+37%), Changan (+87%) and MG (+104%) with Maxus (+1128%), BAIC (+163%), Lifan (+43%), Foton (+42%) and FAW (+30%) also very impressive.
