Even though August 2016 was handicapped by the recent political unrest, new light vehicle sales in Turkey only manage a meagre 1.4% uptick this month to 72.536 registrations including light commercials, keeping the year-to-date tally in negative territory at 555.991 units, down 2.3% on the same period in 2016. Renault surges 33% to hold onto the brands pole position with 13.7% share while in 2nd place Fiat also gallops ahead at +25% to 13.3% share. Volkswagen on the other hand drops 16% to 12.9% and Ford is down 0.4% to 10.5%. Below the Big Four, Dacia impresses with a 14% gain to 5th place, distancing Hyundai (+9%), Opel (-13%) and Peugeot up an excellent 25%. Audi (+17%), Suzuki (+24%), Subaru (+27%), Mazda (+43%), Honda (+44%), Iveco (+56%) and Volvo (+67%) all post significant year-on-year gains further down the ranking.

The locally-produced Fiat Egea remains the best-selling vehicle in Turkey.

The Top of the Turkish models ranking has fallen into a sort of routine, with the Fiat Egea (+61%) once again best-seller above the Renault Megane (+517%) solely ranked that high thanks to its sedan variant. The Ford Transit (+17%) gains four spots on July to #3, the Renault Symbol is up 10 to #4 but down 17% year-on-year as it topped the sales charts in August 2016, the Renault Clio surges 60% to #5, making it three Renaults in the Top 5, the Dacia Sandero is up 33% to #10, the Honda Civic up 215% to #17 thanks to the new generation, the Ford Kuga up 9-fold to #35 and the Peugeot 3008 up 10-fold to #38. The Toyota C-HR (#47) leads recent launches (<12 months) ahead of the Skoda Kodiaq (#65), Opel Crossland X (#95), Seat Ateca (#106) and Audi Q2 (#110).
