The New Caledonian market, a small French Overseas Territory located north-east of Australia, falls heavily in 2016 with sales down 13% to 7.907 units. Once again Ford manages to hold onto the brands pole position and evolves like the market at -13% to 12% share. Dacia on the other hand continue to push up with deliveries up 4% to 10.8% share, even ranking #1 in August and November. Peugeot (-9%), Toyota (-2%) and Renault (+12%) all gain market share, as opposed to Citroen (-15%), Kia (-20%) and Suzuki (-19%). Subaru (+2%), Mercedes (+8%), Fiat (+7%) and BMW (+12%) are the only other gainers in the Top 20. The models ranking is the theatre of a once-in-a-decade event: thanks to stable sales (+0.4%), the Dacia Duster ends seven consecutive years of Ford Ranger domination and takes the lead of the New Caledonian charts with 6.1% share, well above Ford’s pickup at 4.9% (-33%). The Toyota Hilux (+3%), Isuzu D-Max (-22%), Nissan Navara (-35%) and Kia K2700 (+47%) make it five pickups in the Top 9. The Ford Fiesta (+19%), Peugeot 208 (+10%), Dacia Sandero (+16%) and Subaru XV (+21%) all post very robust gains inside the Top 20. The Hyundai Creta (#29) is the most popular newcomer.
