Turkey October 2016: Fiat Egea confirms lead, Renault Mégane Sedan up

As planned, the locally-made Fiat Egea is very popular with Turkish taxi companies.

After the last few months troubled with political unrest, the Turkish government has cancelled a tax applying only to commercial vehicles (mainly taxis) which already is showing some results: October sales are up by a very vigorous 29% year-on-year to 83.000, meaning the year-to-date tally is now getting dangerously close to last year’s record pace at 719.499 units vs. 727.243, a slim 1.1% year-on-year decline. Note these figures include light commercials. In the brands ranking, leader Volkswagen follows the market at +29% to 14.7% share, a safe distance away from Fiat at 11% but beating the market at +39%. On the other hand, Renault (+0.5%) and Ford (+9%) underperform and finish the month with almost identical sales figures. Opel stuns with a 68% surge in 5th place, while Dacia (+50%), Peugeot (+101%), Skoda (+101%), Audi (+128%), Citroen (+198%), Seat (+119%), Suzuki (+4692%), Jeep (+63%) and Ssangyong (+327%) all deliver spectacular year-on-year gains.

The new Sedan variant lifts the Renault Mégane into the Top 10. 

Over in the models aisle, the Fiat Egea cements its newfound role of market leader thanks to 3.280 sales and 4% share, lifting its towering YTD cume to 27.632. It distances the Ford Courier (+22%), VW Polo (+107%) and Fiat Doblo (+75%) with the Opel Astra also posting an outstanding 107% year-on-year gain at #7. Boosted by the new sedan variant already representing 78% of its total sales, the Renault Megane shoots up 665% to break into the Top 10 at #9. For now it ranks #33 year-to-date vs. #57 in 2015. Notice also the arrivals this month in the Turkish ranking of the Toyota C-HR (#191) and Ferrari GTC4 Lusso (#240).
