Sweden July 2016: VW Golf jumps to #1 as Volvo V70 passes relay
The VW Golf is the best-selling nameplate in Sweden in July.

The Swedish new car market posts a 31st consecutive month of year-on-year gains in July, but just, with a +0.2% improvement to 24.197 sales leading to a 10% gain year-to-date at a record 211.788 units. Volvo maintains its lead at home by a slim 108 unit-margin with 4.138 sales and 17.1% (-3%) vs. 4.030 and 16.7% (-1%) for Volkswagen, while Kia soars 3 spots on June to land in third position overall with 1.600 sales and 6.6% share, bypassing Audi (-14%), Toyota (+5%) and BMW (+7%). Skoda (+11%), Peugeot (+13%), Mazda (+18%), Mercedes (+23%), Suzuki (+34%), Honda (+39%) and Seat (+70%) all vastly outpace the market.
Model-wise, the VW Golf takes advantage of the changeover between the market leader, the Volvo V70, and its replacement the Volvo S/V90 to end July in pole position with 6.3% share. This is the first time the Golf ranks tops the Swedish sales charts in July, having done so three out of the past four years in August in 2012, 2014 and 2015. In fact, the Volvo XC60, VW Passat, Volvo S/V60 and Volvo V40 all outsell the V70 also, the latter selling just 800 units including a handful of S/V90 in the mix. The Fiat Ducato fuels up on RV sales and is up to #7, the Kia Sportage gains 15 spots on June to #11, the VW Tiguan is up 7 to #14, the Toyota RAV4 up 11 to #23 and the Kia Picanto up 24 to #60. We welcome this month the Seat Ateca at #132, the Rolls-Royce Wraith at #222 and the Tesla Model X at #251.
