The declining trend that has been hitting the Colombian new car market for the past year and a half is taking a dramatic turn in July with deliveries down an abysmal 34% year-on-year to 17.545. This is the sharpest decline since the market turned its back on a record 2014 year. Year-to-date, new car sales in Colombia are down 17% to 134.788. The brands podium is hit equally hard: Chevrolet (-30%), Renault (-26%) and Kia (-30%) all plunge. If Renault had been going against the grain and showing positive results for the most part of the past year, this month’s decline almost cancels its 2016 progression, with year-to-date sales now up just 1%. Mazda (-9%) resists very well in 4th place, as do BMW (+10%), JAC (-5%), Foton (+3%), Changan (+35%) and Volvo (+53%). At the other end of the scale, Toyota (-50%), Audi (-53%), Mercedes (-57%), Chery (-59%), Jeep (-62%), Dongfeng (-73%) and Hyundai (-78%) really struggle.
