The South African new vehicle market continues to disappoint with sales down 11% in June to 44.939, leading to a year-to-date tally down 10% to 272.461 units halfway through the year. Passenger cars are down 11.7% to 29.070, light commercials are down 10% to 13.398 and exports are down 1.4% to 30.965. Toyota remains the most popular manufacturer in the country with 21.3% share, followed by the Volkswagen Group at 16%, Ford at 11.8%, Hyundai-Kia at 8.9% and General Motors/Isuzu at 8.2%. With a new generation now firmly established, the Toyota Hilux posts a fourth consecutive month atop the models ranking with 6.8% share (+5%), distancing its archenemy the Ford Ranger at 6.3% (-6%). The VW Polo Vivo (+12%), VW Polo (+21%) and Toyota Fortuner (+4%) follow. The BMW X1 (+640%) and Smart Forfour (#74) also shine, while we welcome the Fiat Fullback (#104) and Bentley Bentayga (#246) in the charts.
