The Dutch new car market is back on track: up 5% year-on-year in May to 29.083 registrations, but the year-to-date tally is still in negative at -6% to 155.025 units. Thanks to sales shooting up 83% year-on-year, Opel splendidly takes the helm of the brands ranking, a position it held in the Netherlands for 36 consecutive years between 1969 and 2005… Renault is also in great shape in 2nd place with volumes up 29%, but Volkswagen (-15%), Peugeot (-8%) and Ford (-19%) all pull a sad face. BMW (+23%), Fiat (+46%), Mini (+50%) and Toyota (+122%) all post flamboyant year-on-year improvements.

Volkswagen Golf TSI BlueMotion…but Volkswagen monopolises the YTD podium with the Golf, Polo and Up.

The Renault Clio is the best-selling nameplate in the country in May thanks to 1.058 sales, but the Opel Astra is catching up fast: up 5 spots on April to #2 overall with 913 units while the VW Golf rounds up the podium at 841 deliveries but remains on top year-to-date (4.679) above its lil sisters the VW Polo (4.227) and Up (4.055). Among recent launches, the Opel Karl is back inside the Top 10 (#9), the Renault Kadjar remains very solid at #25, the Renault Talisman breaks into the Top 100 (#94), the Jaguar F-Pace is up 70 spots on April to #157. Finally, we welcome three new nameplates in the Netherlands this month: the Suzuki Baleno landing directly at #81, the Kia Niro (#205) and the Ford Edge (#251).
