Tonga Full Year 2015: Hilux #1, Toyota holds 89% share (BSCB Exclusive)

Tonga is a Polynesian archipelago composed of 177 islands spread over 700.000 km2 (270.000 sq mi) and stretching over 800 km (500 mi) in a north-south line, about a third of the distance from New Zealand to Hawaii.  It has 103.000 inhabitants, 70% of which lives on the main island of Tongatapu. Tonga is one of the smallest car markets in the world, with only 53 new vehicles registered in 2015, two more than in 2014. Toyota is the only manufacturer to really sell vehicles in the country with a 88.7% market share in 2015, Hyundai and Nissan are also present. The Hilux is the best-selling vehicle in Tonga followed by the Hiace – both nameplates dropping 10% vs. 2014 and the RAV4 up 50%.
