Today we can share with you for the first time on BSCB complete annual data for Syria. This is exclusive to BSCB, you won’t find this data anywhere else. As the country is torn apart by a seemingly never-ending civil war that is now involving almost every power in the world, the part of the country still controlled by the government continues to communicate new car sales data, information that seems futile in such a devastating context. Understandably, the Syrian new car market is down 43% on a year ago to 14.065 new registrations in 2015.

Kia Frontier Syria 2015

The Kia Frontier is up 34% to 2nd place.

Only five carmakers continue to operate in the country – one less than in 2014 – the most successful being Hyundai albeit going from a gigantic 72.9% share a year ago to a more ‘reasonable’ 53.4% due to sales imploding at -58%. On the other hand, Kia is down just 2%, resulting in a much improved share going from 26.7% to 45.5%. All three other manufacturers (Nissan, Mazda and Subaru) sell less than 100 units each.

Over in the models ranking, from eight nameplates selling over 1.000 units in 2014 we are down to just four in 2015. The Hyundai Elantra holds onto the pole position despite sales down 51% to 3.025, holding an imposing 21.5% market share. The Kia Frontier manages to see its deliveries up 34% to #2 and the Sportage is up 58% to #3 but it’s all bad news below them: the Hyundai Tucson, Accent, i10 and Kia Sorento all fall apart. The Nissan Sentra – new to 2015 – is the best-selling non-Korean nameplate at #17 with a meagre 50 units sold.
