The Singaporean new car market exactly doubles in size compared to a year ago in January to 7.072 registrations. Leader over the Full Year 2015, Toyota only owes its January top spot to premium brand Lexus, included in its figures: at 1.480 sales and 20.9% and despite a 150% year-on-year surge, the Japanese manufacturer is threatened by fellow Nippon brand Honda, up an even more impressive 357% to 1.448 units and 20.5% share. Mercedes is back up 3 spots on December to #3 and 10.7%, above Nissan (+154%), Mazda (+104%) and BMW (+36%). Hyundai (+138%) and Mitsubishi (+111%) are also back in the Top 10. These extravagant market growth figures are related to the recent lowering of the price of certificates of entitlement (COE), essentially the right to drive in Singapore, which had reached levels equivalent to the price of a car in recent years.
