Philippines May 2015: Toyota Vios breaks record at 12.4% share

The Filipino new car market is up 1% in May to 23.248 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 131.846 units, a figure already above the 126.659 sales posted over the First Half 2014… Carbuyers in the Philippines display very consolidated buying patterns, with the Top 5 brands accounting for no less than 77% of overall sales. Toyota has the lion’s share as usual with a particularly strong 44.6% in June thanks to 10.377 deliveries vs. 43.6% year-to-date. Mitsubishi delivers its highest market share in the world at 15.2% above Ford (7.3%), Honda (5.2%) and Isuzu (4.9%). Chevrolet at #10 and 3.1% is the only other non-Asian brands in the Top 10.
Model-wise, the Toyota Vios cements its leadership even further by smashing its monthly volume record in May at 2.886 units and 12.4% share vs. 10.8% year-to-date, with Toyota monopolising the Top 4 once again: the Fortuner ranks 2nd at 6.9% ahead of the Hiace very robust at 6.5% vs. 5.7% year-to-date and the Innova at 5.9%. Far below, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport is the best-selling non-Toyota in 5th place with 4.5% share while the Toyota Wigo (#6) makes its 5 Toyotas in the Top 6. Excellent performance of the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 up to #7 with 873 sales, of the Mitsubishi Strada at #14, Nissan Navara at #19 and Ford Mustang at #65.
