Finally! Argentinean new car sales are up year-on-year for the first time since December 2013 at +9% to 56.315 registrations, with the year-to-date total halfway through 2015 standing at 310.731 units, still down a harsh 18% on 2014. The Argentinean market could be on the wake of a new era with tax and foreign exchange access changes expected in July that could free sales up anew. Volkswagen lodges another excellent performance at +18% to 9.908 sales and 17.6% share ahead of Ford (-3%), Chevrolet (-16%), Renault (-4%) and Fiat (-30%). Further down, Mercedes (+22%), Hyundai (+24%), Chery (+39%), Kia (+79%) and Audi (+249%) impress.
Model-wise, the Chevrolet Classic returns to #1 for the first time in two years (since July 2013) thanks to 3.547 sales and 6.3% share and now ranks 4th year-to-date, the Ford Fiesta Kinetic remains at #2 above the VW Gol Trend (-2), the Fiat Palio (-1%) and Ford Ecosport, stable in 5th position. Last month we wondered whether the Nuevo Sandero would be able to save Renault: so far so good, it is up 28 spots on May to break into the Top 10 at #8 with 1.825 sales and 3.2%, instantly becoming the brand’s best-seller in Argentina above the Kangoo (#9). Notice also the VW Amarok up 7 ranks to #10, the VW Up solid at #15 and the Citroen C4 Lounge landing directly at #27 with 536 units sold for a round 1% market share.
