New car sales in Uruguay are down 13% year-on-year in February to 3,972 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 7,930 units, down 10% on 2014. We are now witnessing a rare and momentous change of guard atop the Uruguyan brands ranking: Suzuki is the most popular manufacturer in the country for the 4th straight month, taking an extremely impressive 5 percentage point advantage over traditional leader Chevrolet in February. The Japanese brand sells 620 units for a 15.6% market share vs. 417 and 10.5% for Chevrolet, and cements its year-to-date lead at 14.6% share vs. 11.8%. Chevrolet had been leading Uruguay sales charts since at least 2010. Below, Volkswagen (9.1%) and Fiat (8.1%) are solid, while Chinese manufacturers drop below the 20% market share milestone at a still world-best 19.4%, placing 6 reps inside the Top 20: Chery (#8), BYD (#11), Lifan (#13), FAW (#14), Geely (#18) and Chana (#20).
