Sales of local models in South Korea gain 6.5% year-on-year in South Korea this month, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,299,678 deliveries, up 4% on 2013. Whereas up until last month it hadn’t snapped the pole position in 19 months, the Kia Morning (aka Picanto) lodges a second consecutive month atop the models ranking thanks to sales up 16% YOY to 9,347 units but stays #3 year-to-date. The Hyundai Porter (#2) and Avante (#3, aka Elantra) exchange spots vs. last month while the Sonata remains #4 but still holds the YTD pole position thanks to the new generation and sales up 17% on 2013 to 96,116. Both the Kia Sorento (#6) and Carnival (#9), relaunched recently with great success, are up vs. October and still finding their long-term marks. The Samsung QM3 (aka Renault Captur) is up 10 spots on October to #15, its 2nd-best monthly ranking in South Korea below the #11 it reached last June, and the Hyundai Aslan, launched last month to compete with premium foreign imports, is up 19 ranks to break into the Top 30 at #28 with 1,320 units sold.
