Norway November 2014: Mazda CX-5 back on podium

New car sales in Norway are down a worrying 5% year-on-year in November to 11,746 registrations, with the year-to-date tally now only 0.6% above 2013 at 131.553 units. Brand-wise, Volkswagen keeps an unassailable lead over Toyota at 16.7% share vs. 10.8% in November, 14.9% vs. 11.4% year-to-date. Volvo, BMW and Nissan follow as per the YTD ranking while Mercedes jumps up to #6. The VW Golf sells more on its own than any brand in the Norwegian market bar Volkswagen, Toyota and Volvo with 870 units and 7.6% share in November, 29% of which are the electric variant e-Golf, ahead of the Toyota Auris (3.3%) and the Mazda CX-5 (3.2%) celebrating its return on the podium for the first time since August 2013.

Notice also the Tesla Model S back up 66 spots on a dismal month of October to #17. Other great performers this month in Norway include the VW Polo up 15 spots on October to #13, the Mercedes C-Class up to #19 vs. #33 year-to-date, the Kia Soul up 10 ranks thanks to the new electric variant (78% of sales) to #23 vs. #72 YTD. But the most impressive nameplate this month in Norway is the Lexus NX300h up a further 11 spots on an already stellar October result to #32 with 108 sales and just under 1% market share, equivalent to 80% of the entire Lexus brand’s sales in the country!
