New car sales in Austria are up a tiny 0.75% year-on-year in October to 26,945 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 264,308 units, down 4% on 2013. Below Volkswagen down 6% to 16.9% share, Hyundai climbs one spot to rank #2 overall thanks to sales up 8% on October 2013 to 1,940 units for a 7.2% market share. Opel is up 13% but down one spot on September to #3, Ford is up 9% and one rank to #4 and Skoda up 8% but down one spot to #5. Model-wise, while the VW Golf continues its uncontested reign atop the hierarchy, the Hyundai i20 is back up to a fantastic 2nd place for the second time this year after last July, delivering an all-time record 3.6% market share (previous best: 3.5% last month). This is due to runout price of the outgoing model in anticipation of the new generation arriving in dealerships from November onwards. With the Czech Republic, Austria is fast becoming Hyundai’s avant-garde markets in Europe.
