Austria August 2014: Skoda Fabia jumps to 2nd place

New car sales in Austria are worryingly down again at -8% year-on-year in August to 21,121 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 212,500 units, down 5% on 2013. Brand-wise, Volkswagen is down 10% year-on-year but at 18.7% share it is one percentage point above its 2014 level so far, Skoda is up 10% to #2 and 8.1% share and now also #2 year-to-date, passing Opel, and Peugeot is up 13% at #11. In the models ranking, below perennial leader the VW Gol at a strong 6.7% share, the Skoda Fabia, boosted by runout prices of the current generation before the new model arrives in dealerships, jumps up 3 spots to #2 with 864 sales and 4.1% vs. just 1.9% year-to-date. The VW Tiguan is up 10 ranks on July to #3, the VW Polo is up two to #4, Hyundai i20 down 3 to #5, Opel Corsa up 7 to #9 and the Seat Alhambra is up to #18 with 1.3% market share, making it 3 Seats in the Austrian Top 18 along with the Ibiza (#11) and Leon (#17).
