South Korea July 2014: Kia Carnival breaks records in 2nd place

Sales of local models in South Korea are up 2% year-on-year in July to 127,319 units, bringing the year-to-date total to 834,662 units, up 4% on 2013. Below the Hyundai Sonata signing its 4th month in a row in pole position at 10,035 sales and 7.9% share, the big event this month in South Korea is the astounding ascension of the new generation Kia Carnival: up 7 spots and 119% on June to land at a record 2nd place with a best-ever 9,343 units and 7.3% share. At this rate, it could even snap the top spot away from the Sonata next month! Never before had the Carnival nameplate reached such heights at home, meaning Kia has struck gold with the third generation of the model, which is a very encouraging sign for its international career.

Below, the Hyundai Grandeur is back up 3 spots on last month to third place with a strong 7.1% share, the Hyundai Porter is down two to #4 but remains in 2nd place year-to-date at 7% share, the Hyundai Avante (aka Elantra) is shy again at #5 whereas it led the overall ranking over the Full Year 2013, the Samsung SM5 is up 6 ranks to #16 with 2,609 sales and 2% share vs. 1.6% year-to-date, the Kia Pride (aka Rio) is also up 6 to #19, the Chevrolet Captiva up 5 to #28 and the Samsung QM3 (aka Renault Captur) is back down 22 spots to #33 at just 694 sales.
