Portugal June 2014: Mass brands reclaim market up 24%

New car sales in Portugal are up another splendid 24% year-on-year in June, definitely on the mend and adding up to 75,780 units (+38%) halfway through the year. Brand-wise, Renault tests new heights: up 43% to a gigantic 17.6% share thanks to exceptional performances of the Clio (#1 with 8.5% share) and Captur (#6 and 3.3%), reflecting the general situation in Europe for the French manufacturer. Other brands doing well in Portugal this month include Opel (+31%), Mercedes (+46%), Seat (+57%), Nissan (+33%), Ford (+36%), Dacia (+92%), Honda (+87%), Mazda (+74%), Porsche (+117%) and Lexus (+200%).
Once again the Renault Clio is by far the most popular vehicle in Portugal this month.
In the models ranking, the VW Polo remains in 2nd place thanks to a strong 4.8% share vs. 3.7% year-to-date, above the Peugeot 208 and the Seat Ibiza up to 3.4% share vs. 2.6% so far in 2014. Notice also the Fiat 500 up 12 spots on May to #13, the Seat Leon up a further two to #14, Opel Astra up 4 to #15, Mitsubishi Space Star up 44 to #26, Citroen C4 Cactus up 115 to #36, BMW 4 Series up 20 to #39 and the Mercedes CLA holding onto its Top 50 spot at #50. Finally, the premium models that delivered incredible scores at the start of the year are starting to pant a little: the BMW 1 Series is down 10 spots on May to #16, the BMW 3 Series down 3 to #17, the Mercedes A Class is at #18 vs. #11 year-to-date and the Audi A3 is down 8 to #21.
