New car sales in Italy are up an encouraging 4% year-on-year in June to a still very weak 128,270 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 761,842 units, up 3% on 2013. This is the 5th month of year-on-year gain so far this year. After a crazy month of May, the Italian models ranking is back to ‘some kind’ of normalcy in June. I said ‘some kind’, because below the Fiat Panda, perennial leader at 8,661 sales and 6.8% share, the Fiat Nuova 500 is up to #2 at home for only the 2nd time in its 7 year-career (the first one was in September 2008) thanks to 5,662 units and 4.4%, which earns it back the year-to-date 4th spot it held over the Full Year 2013.
The Renault Clio is the most popular foreign model in Italy so far this year.
As a result the Fiat 500L is knocked down to a still very impressive third position with 5,052 sales and 3.9%, chiselling away at the Fiat Punto year-to-date, itself back from a hellish 6th spot in May to #4 this month at 4,919 units and 3.8%. The Renault Clio is once again the most popular foreign model at #5 with 4,508 sales and 3.3%, passing the Lancia Ypsilon down 3 spots on May to #6. Further down, the Opel Corsa is up 6 ranks to #10, the Renault Captur (#14) and Peugeot 2008 (#15) make waves once again while the Dacia Duster is up a further two spots to #16, the VW Up holds itself within the Top 20 at #19 and the Renault Scénic is up 6 to #30.
