Czech Republic May 2014: Seat Leon inside Top 10 for first time

New car sales in the Czech Republic are up 4% year-on-year in May to 15,396 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 75,887 units, up a splendid 14% on 2013. The models sales charts podium is unchanged on April and year-to-date with the Skoda Octavia in the lead at a round 10% share, followed by the Rapid at 6.9% and the Fabia at 4.9%. The Hyundai i30 reclaims the title of best-selling foreign model it held over the Full Year 2013 in 4th place with 508 sales and 3.3% above the Ford Fiesta at 3.2%, VW Golf at 3% (but still 4th year-to-date) and Hyundai ix20 at 2.7%.
But the big event in the Top 10 this month is the arrival of the Seat Leon for the first time in the nameplate’s 15 year-career, up 4 spots on April to a record 8th place thanks to 320 units sold and a 2.1% market share. In fact, with the entire Skoda range fitting inside the Top 12 this month and the VW Polo at #13, the Volkswagen Group places no less than 10 models in the May Top 13. Other great performers include the Mitsubishi ASX up to #31 vs. #45 so far in 2014, the Opel Zafira up 40 ranks on April to #38, Hyundai i10 up to #42 vs. #60, Mercedes E-Class up 27 to #63 and the Mercedes GLA breaking into the Top 100 at #90.
