New car sales in Ireland are up 6% year-on-year in May to 6,291 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 64,031 units, still up a fantastic 24% on 2013. For the first time since BSCB follows the Irish market monthly (2010), the Toyota Corolla is the most popular vehicle in the country thanks in May thanks to 297 sales and 4.7% share. Irish car buyers have a history of choosing the Toyota Corolla as one of their preferred models: it ranked #1 exactly 10 years ago over the Full Year 2014, and is #4 so far in 2014.

The Ford Fiesta also delivers a very strong month in Ireland, up to 2nd place with 283 sales and 4.5%, above the two leaders year-to-date: the VW Golf and Nissan Qashqai. Notice also the VW Polo up 23 spots on April to #6, the Toyota RAV4 up 5 to #10 vs. #25 year-to-date (this generation’s first time in the Irish Top 10), the Hyundai i10 up 6 to #11 vs. #42 so far in 2014, the Dacia Sandero at #21 vs. #51 year-to-date, the Honda Civic up 15 to #26 vs. #48, BMW 1 Series up 16 to #33 vs. #70 and the Peugeot 2008 up 6 to #37, now above the 208.
