The Saudi new car market is up 11% year-on-year in March to 69,015 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 194,479 units, up 5% on 2013. After the Hyundai ‘hijack’ from January (Hyundai Elantra #1 and Accent #2!), the models sales charts is back to a little bit of normalcy in Saudi Arabia. The Toyota Hilux lodges a 2nd consecutive month in pole position with 5,949 sales and a strong 8.6% market share, bringing it back into #1 spot year-to-date at 15,049 units and 7.7% vs. 12,842 and 6.6% for the Hyundai Elantra and 11,562 and 5.9% for the Hyundai Accent.
The 2015 model should push the Chevrolet Tahoe further up in Saudi Arabia.
This month’s best performer is the Toyota Yaris, up 3 spots on February to a fantastic second place overall thanks to 4,174 sales and 6% share, that’s a 63% improvement on March 2013, partly due to the arrival of the new generation sedan pictured above. The Toyota Corolla is down 3 ranks to #5 (remaining #4 YTD) above the Toyota Camry. Excellent showing of the Chevrolet Tahoe up two spots to #7 and #8 YTD vs. #13 in 2013, making it the best-selling non-Asian vehicle in the country this month. The Nissan D22 Pick-up is stable at #8 and #7 YTD, a far cry from the #33 spot it held over the Full Year 2013. The Isuzu D-Max makes it 3 pick-ups inside the Top 9.
First appearance of the Infiniti Q50 in Saudi rankings.
Outside the Top 10, let’s salute the GMC Yukon solid at #18 and 1,069 sales, the Hyundai Santa Fe up 6 spots on February to #19, the Nissan Patrol up 14 ranks to #23 and up to #31 YTD vs. #121 over the Full Year 2013, the Mazda6 up 9 to #31, Nissan Altima up 89 ranks on last month to #52, Dodge Challenger up 77 to #54, Nissan Maxima up 61 to #57 and the Kia Cadenza up 27 to #75. In fact most Nissan models display explosive growth this month as the carmaker enjoys a successful return to the Saudi car scene. Among newcomers, the Infiniti Q50 lands at #131, the Maserati Ghibli at #174 and the Audi A3 at #206.
