New car sales in Saudi Arabia are surprisingly down 4% year-on-year in January to 59,871 registrations, the only country in the region to lose ground this month. And there is another big surprise atop the models sales charts: not one but two Hyundais dominate, above all Toyotas! This is potentially the first time it ever happens in Saudi Arabia. The Hyundai Elantra is the most popular vehicle in the country thanks to 4,296 sales and 7.2% share while the Hyundai Accent holds the 2nd spot at 3,835 units and 6.4%.
Leader over the Full Year 2013, the Toyota Hilux is kicked down to third place with 3,496 sales and 5.8% share, way below the 9% it commended in 2013. The Corolla, Camry and Yaris save Toyota’s honour in the Top 6. Just below the Nissan D22 Pick-up sparks, up from #33 in FY2013 to #7, as do the Nissan Sunny N17 up 47 spots to #11, the Toyota RAV4 up 11 to #19, the Mazda CX-9 up 9 to #31, GMC Savana up 63 to #34, Hyundai i10 up 48 to #35, Nissan Patrol up 79 to #42 and the Citroen C-Elysée up a huge 184 ranks to #53.
