Ecuador Full Year 2012: Chevrolet Sail takes the lead

Better late than never, I can give you today Full Year 2012 data for Ecuador. The Ecuadorean new car market is down a harsh 13% year-on-year in 2012 to 121,446 registrations which is still the third best annual score ever below 2011 (139,893) and 2010 (132,172). Chevrolet continues to reign supreme in Ecuador with a huge 45.2% market share, 4.5 times the #2 Hyundai at 10.1%! Kia (8.4%), Nissan (5.8%) and Toyota (5.6%) follow. We have a new leader in the models ranking for the first time in at least 5 years: the Chevrolet Sail becomes the most popular vehicle in the country thanks to a very robust 12,490 sales and 10.3% market share.
In fact the Top 4 best-sellers are 100% Chevrolet, with the Luv D-Max up 19% and one spot to #2 with 9,890 units and 8.1%, the Aveo Family up 13% but down one rank to #3 and 9,697 sales and the Grand Vitara down 15% but up one spot to #4 and 5,560 units. The most popular non-Chevrolet is the Mazda BT-50 down a steep 34% to #5 followed by the Kia Sportage down 18% to #6. Notice also the Hyundai Tucson iX up 4 ranks to #8 and the Hyundai Accent landing at #10. Finally, among Chinese carmakers Great Wall at #11 with 1.7% share, Chery at #12 and 1.5% and Lifan at #20 and 0.2% are the only ones managing a Top 20 ranking this year.
