Thanks to SMMT, I can share with you the best-sellers for each nation in the UK in February, all in one update. Keep in mind this is a zoom in into each nation, all figures are already included in the UK overall February update. With the UK market gaining ground year-on-year for the 24th consecutive time this month, we have Northern Ireland (+10%) over performing, England (+3%) level, while Scotland (-1%) and Wales (-5%) well below the national average and surprisingly into negative territory.

In Scotland, the Ford Fiesta accentuates its advantage over the rest of the market thanks to 349 sales and a massive 7% market share. It is followed like last month by the Vauxhall Corsa, while the Ford Focus gains one spot to round the podium and the VW Polo is up two to #4. Below the Ford Ka up 3 to #6 we welcome two models inside the Scottish monthly Top 10 for the first time: the VW Up lands directly at #7 with 100 sales and 2% and the Renault Captur ranks 8th thanks to 98 units and also 2% share, that’s 4 units above the Clio! Finally, the Citroen C1 in runout mode shining at #10.

Hyundai i10 UK February 2014The Hyundai i10 is #8 in Northern Ireland.

In Northern Ireland, the VW Golf manages to equal the Ford Fiesta for pole position this month, both models selling 168 units for a 3.8% market share. Volkswagen even places a second model on the podium with the Polo at #3 and 3.6%. Coming out of nowhere, the Suzuki Alto jumps up to #4 with 151 sales and 3.4%, earning it a #10 spot year-to-date. There are two more all-new entrants inside the Top 10 in February: the Renault Captur lands at #7 with 2.3% share and the Hyundai i10 at #8 with 2.2%. Finally, notice the Kia Sportage back up to #10.

Citroen C4 Picasso UK February 2014The Citroen C4 Picasso is #7 in Wales.

In Wales, below the Ford Fiesta (10.9% share!) and Focus (5.4%), traditional leaders here, we have a big surprise: the VW Up rounds up the podium whereas it had not ranked inside the Welsh Top 10 since BSCB started following this nation halfway through 2013. It sells 57 units for a 2.9% market share. Another surprise this month in Wales is the 7th place of the Citroen C4 Picasso boosted by the new model and selling 43 units for a 2.2% share, followed by the Vauxhall Zafira at 1.9% while the Suzuki Alto is back in the Top 10 at #10.

In England, traditionally the models Top 10 is very similar to the UK one as England accounts for 83% of the overall UK market in February. The only change is the Mercedes C-Class up a notch to #6 thanks to 1,127 sales and 2%, passing the VW Polo, and now ranking #9 year-to-date ahead of the Nissan Qashqai and Fiat 500 whereas it has not made it into the YTD Top 10 yet in the UK overall.
