December 2013 roughly corresponds roughly to the month of Azar in the year 1392 of the Persian calendar, and for this reason there won’t be any Full Year Report yet for Iran as the end of the Persian year occurs in March. Car production in Iran over the period is back into positive over the period, up 8% year-on-year to 65,603 with the year-to-date total now standing at 426,674 units after 9 months, down 26% on 1391. The Saipa Pride remains the most produced model in the country at 19,732 units (+2% year-on-year), followed by the Peugeot Pars at 12,566 units, up a splendid 62% year-on-year. Adding the production figure of the Peugeot 405 we arrive at 19,254 units, just below the Pride.
The Iran Khodro Samand remains in third place with 8,010 units produced this month, down 16% year-on-year but up 42% on last month. We welcome back the Peugeot 206 among the 5 most produced vehicles in Iran this month for the first time since Peugeot initially shut down its operation in the country last year following its now loosened partnership with General Motors. It is produced at 4,280 units, up 53% on November. The Lifan X60 resists in 8th place with 1,607 units, the JAC J5 up 8 spots to #13 and the Iran Khodro Dena appearing in the ranking with 6 units produced over the period.
