The Mexican new car market is up a splendid 8% year-on-year in December to reach 119,364 registrations, its highest monthly figure in 6 years (since the 126,350 hit in December 2007), and bringing the final 2013 total to 1,063,363 units, also up a very robust 8% on 2012. This is the first time since 2008 that Mexico is above one million annual sales. Brand-wise, both Nissan at 24.8% share and Chevrolet at 19% evolve like the market, while Volkswagen shoots up 17% to 156,313 sales and 14.7%. Ford (+4%) passes Chrysler (-10%) with Toyota (+8%), Honda (+11%) and Mazda (+33%) following. Notice Audi up 23%, BMW up 20%, Fiat up 63% and Peugeot up 33%.

Model-wise, the Chevrolet Aveo is the most popular vehicle in the country for the second year running in spite of sales down 1% to 65,331 for a 6.1% market share. After leading the market in 2011 but falling down to #3 last year, the VW Clasico is back up one spot and 21% to #2 at 54,603 units and 5.1%, topping the monthly charts 4 times this year and passing the Nissan Versa up just 3% to 49,004 sales and 4.6%. Incredibly, the antediluvian but cheap Nissan Tsuru manages to gain 34% year-on-year to remain #4 at 46,298 units and 4.4%, keeping its distance with the VW Nuevo Jetta up 19% at #5.
