New car sales in Indonesia are definitely not slowing down their incredible growth: up 5% on October 2012 which at the time was an all-time record to 112,038 registrations, no less than the 3rd biggest month ever in the country below last September and July… The Toyota Avanza is still by far the most popular model in Indonesia, accounting for just under 16% of the market at 17,809 sales. It is now followed by the Toyota Kijang Innova, back up 2 spots on last month to #2 at 6,036 units and 5.4% and passing the Suzuki Ertiga to reclaim the #3 spot year-to-date. The Daihatsu Xenia remains #3 with 5,918 sales and 5.3% and is still #2 year-to-date at 59,466 units and 5.8%, meaning the Avanza/Xenia twins command 23.7% of the Indonesian car market so far in 2013!

But the big surprise is below and it’s another piece of good news for Toyota: the Agya is up 3 spots to reach #4 for only its 2nd month in market thanks to 5,343 sales and 4.8% share, and is followed by its twin the Daihatsu Ayla at #5 with 4,929 units and 4.4%! The two locally produced models already account for almost 10% of the Indonesian new car market and are Toyota’s answer to the new Indonesian Government Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) regulation which exempts from the luxury tax models made up from at least 60% domestic components, priced between Rp 50 million and 85 million with a maximum displacement of 1,200cc and fuel efficiency of at least 20 km/l. The Honda Brio Satya is the next candidate and it already appears at #20 this month. The Datsun Go, recently unveiled in India, should follow within the next few months. It’s never been such an exciting times for new car sales charts in Indonesia indeed!
