New car sales in Austria are up a shy 1.6% year-on-year in October to 26,743 registrations, bringing the year-to-date total to 274,854 units, down 6% on 2012. The VW Golf has now led the Austrian models charts for 12 consecutive months thanks to 1,451 sales and 5.4% in October, ahead of the Skoda Octavia continuing its new generation-fueled progression, up one further spot on September to #2 at 890 units and 3.3%. The Octavia is now #4 year-to-date like in 2012. The VW Tiguan and Polo follow, while the Hyundai i20 and i30 are very solid once again at #5 and #6. With the ix35 at #8, Hyundai places 3 models inside the Austrian Top 8 this month, like Volkswagen, and it is now the #2 brand overall in 2013, passing Skoda!
Without a doubt boosted by the new S-Cross model, the Suzuki SX4 shoots up directly inside the Top 10 at #10 with 398 sales and 1.5% share. To understand how massive this score is you have to visualise the fact that before today, the SX4’s only incursion inside the Top 50 since I have started following monthly sales charts for Austria back in 2010 was #45 in December 2012! Other great performers include the VW Bus up 18 ranks on last month to #13, the Dacia Sandero up from outside the Top 50 to #14, the Ford Galaxy up 11 to #18, Opel Insignia up to #21, Dacia Duster slicing its September ranking in two to #23 and the Peugeot 2008 breaking into the Austrian Top 50 for the first time at #31 with 251 sales and 0.9% just below the Renault Captur at #29.
