After going through the October sales data, as is the tradition on BSCB we try and extract some longer-term trends by looking into the year-to-date charts. Thanks to another 10% year-on-year increase in October, the US market is up by a very healthy 8% on 2012 at 13 million registrations. The Hyundai Elantra is the best-performing vehicle in this year’s Top 20 so far, with sales increasing 25% on 2012 to rank #13. The Toyota RAV4 follows at +23% to #16, with the Dodge Ram up 22% to #5 and the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Sierra and Ford Fusion all up 20%. Still a very distinct pick-up flavour in here!

The Subaru Forester is once again the king of the Top 50 with sales up 57% to reach a well deserved 42nd spot, with other impressive gainers inside the Top 100 including the Nissan Pathfinder up 183% to #54, Mazda CX-5 up 101% to #62, Toyota Avalon up 155% to #68, Dodge Durango up 49% to #75, VW Beetle up 56% to #91 and the Acura RDX up 64% to #92. Notice also the Audi Q5 up 43% to #105 and now ranking just below its direct competitors the BMW X5 (#103) and Mercedes M-Class (#104)…

US Porsche Cayenne sales are up 29% so far in 2013…

There are no all-new nameplates inside the Top 100 and only two inside the Top 190, denoting a surprisingly stable sales charts. The Buick Encore is the most popular at this game at #117 with 26,532 sales. Does this make it a thunderous success? Nope. We then have the Infiniti Q50 at #190 with 7,357 sales, and given it’s reached this ranking in 3 months that’s a better performance already. But the next one is potentially this year’s winner: the Mercedes CLA ranks #191 at 7,205 units after only two months in market. Now we’re talking! Only the Kia Cadenza at #194 manages to break into this year’s Top 200.

Mercedes GL Class USA October 2013. Picture courtesy of motortrend.com…while the Mercedes GL-Class is up 25%.

Other interesting progressions include the GMC Yukon XL up 42% to #124, Mercedes GL-Class up 25% to #127, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport up 39% to #134, Nissan Leaf up 166% to #140, Porsche Cayenne up 29% to #151, Audi Q7 up 46% to #164, Range Rover up 48% to #178, Lexus LS up 50% to #183 and Mercedes G-Class up 127% to #235.
