As is now the tradition on BSCB we go through local Iranian production figures as sales information is not available, however this should portray a relatively accurate picture of car sales in the country as high import duties and the weakness of the local currency limits sales of other vehicles. September 2013 is roughly equivalent to Shahrivar, the 6th month of the year 1392 in the Persian calendar. Over the period and for the first time in almost two years (since December 2011!), the production of new cars in Iran is actually up year-on-year at +20% on Shahrivar 1391 to 54,526 units. Year-to-date after 6 months in the Persian Year 1392, the total stands at 247,327 units, down 38% on 1391.
Chery MVM315 production is up 269% this month in Iran.
If the Saipa Pride unsurprisingly tops the monthly ranking once again with 16,975 units, down 7% year-on-year, the Peugeot Pars is getting closer, up a fantastic 713% to 11,134 units, the first time over 10,000 units of the nameplate are produced in a single month since I have been following the Iranian market monthly. The Iran Khodro Samand also displays reassuring health, up 22% year-on-year to 6,127 units at #3. In fact, with the Peugeot 206 up a huge 1255% on September 2012 to 4,565 units at #5, it would seem the loosening of General Motors and Peugeot ties have already had an impact on Peugeot’s production in Iran. Notice also the Saipa Tiba up 178% to 3,926 units and the Chery MVM315 (aka Fulwin 2/Bonus) up 269% to #8
