It now definitely looks like the Portuguese new car market has turned the corner: up year-on-year for the 4th consecutive month in September at +16% to 7,368 registrations, which brings the year-to-date total to 79,386 units, up 6% on 2012. If the Renault Clio continues to excel in pole position, up 202% year-on-year to 7.2% share, the surprise is in 2nd place: the BMW 3 Series gains 3 spots on an already exceptional month of August to sell 280 units for an amazing 3.8% market share in September, up 111% year-on-year… It is now #9 year-t0-date at 2.5% share, up 63% on 2012. In fact, this month BMW is the #2 brand in Portugal with 9.1% share, with Mercedes #4 at 8.3% and both manufacturers ahead of Volkswagen at #5 and 6.8%!

To illustrate this trend, the Mercedes A-Class is up 74% year-on-year to #5 with 232 sales and 3.1% and the BMW 1 Series is up 7 spots on August to #6 at 194 units and 2.6%, making it two BMWs in the Top 6, as many as Renault! In spite of sales down 12% on September 2012, the Peugeot 208 remains on the podium this month and climbs to #2 year-to-date. Notice also the Renault Captur down 5 ranks to a still excellent #11, the Dacia Sandero up 594% year-on-year (!) to #18, Mercedes E-Class at #19 and the Peugeot 2008 up 12 spots to a record #21.
